Jonathan completed the first part of his music education at Maidstone Youth Music Society where he held the position of principal oboe in Maidstone Youth Orchestra and Maidstone Youth Wind Orchestra. Jonathan joined the Kent Centre for Young Instrumentalists, now Kent Academy of Music, in 2003. He was also a member of the Kent Youth Choirs for four years touring Austria and Holland as well as playing and conducting the Kent Youth Chamber Orchestra.

Jonathan continued his studies and graduated with a BMus (hons) degree from Goldsmiths College, University of London. He was principal oboe of the college Sinfonia performing in the UK Premiere of Sergei Prokofiev’s Songs of Our Days, as well as contemporary works by Schnittke, Saariaho and Ives. Jonathan has been a member of the London Philharmonic Choir, BBC Symphony Chorus and Londinium Voices performing in a number of acclaimed performances and recordings including the world premiere of John Tavener’s Beautiful Names and Michael Nyman’s A Handshake in the Dark. He has performed in many of the UK’s top venues including the Royal Albert Hall, the Barbican, Queen Elizabeth Hall, St. Martin-in-the-Fields and St. Paul’s Cathedral.

Jonathan has performed in productions of Peter Grimes (Hobson), Marriage of Figaro (Antonio), Carmen (Morales) and The Magic Flute (Second Armed Man) for OperaGold. He has since gone on to play roles in Venus and Adonis (Shepherd and Huntsman), Dido and Aeneas (Sailor), and Tosca (Spoletta), as well as chorus in Wagner’s Der fliegende Holländer. With his roots in the British choral tradition, Jonathan is a freelance tenor who has been a member of the Holst Singers under Stephen Layton, the London Philharmonic Choir, BBC Symphony Chorus and Londinium Voices. He has performed in a number of acclaimed performances and recordings including the world premiere of John Tavener’s Beautiful Names and Michael Nyman’s A Handshake in the Dark, as well as the recording Ikon II with the Holst Singers. Jonathan was also one of the first beneficiaries of the Young Professional Singers Scheme created by the Philharmonia Chorus.

In March 2010, Jonathan was appointed Music Director of Maidstone Wind Symphony. His current tenure has been marked with a series of well-received concerts including collaborations with Black Dyke Band principal trombonist Brett Baker and the Band of the Corps of Royal Engineers. With the orchestra he has also commissioned and premiered works by Peter Longworth, Peter Meechan, Bert Appermont, Ferrer Ferran, Philip Sparke, Rob Wiffin, Peter Graham and Johan de Meij.

In December 2012 Jonathan and Maidstone Wind Symphony with Black Dyke Band principal trombonist Brett Baker, released the orchestras debut recording Slide Projections, to critical acclaim.
